Dr Patrick Moore—“The Inner Planets”

Sir Dr Patrick Moore

Wednesday 6th December 1995

This article describing Sir (then Dr) Patrick Moore’s visit to Papworth is taken from the Cambridge Evening News:

The Sky At Night presenter, Patrick Moore was the star of the show when he unveiled the secrets of the universe to the Papworth Astronomy Club.

His fast-moving talk about the inner planets of the solar system was illustrated with anecdotes about his personal involvement in reporting the discoveries made in the age of space research.

The star-gazer also became the friend of many famous space explorers including Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, and Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the Moon.

The monthly club meeting at the Bradbury Progression Centre was packed with members and guests as well as visitors from other astronomy societies in the region, including Peterborough, Cambridge, Sawtry and Great Ellingham.

The Club, which was founded two years ago, is run under the auspices of the Papworth Trust, of which Patrick Moore is a vice-president.
